Overview
The General Department shoulders the responsibility of drawing up policies and laws and defining mechanisms for privatization and investment activities in all sectors affiliated to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) and contacting the concerned authorities. It's also responsible for identifying fields and investment opportunities and aligning them to MEWA strategic objectives, devising and following-up programs and plans and identifying privatization opportunities. The Department also creates smart partnerships with the private sector in coordination with the competent organizational units.

Department of Investment
• Ensuring that all investment businesses and activities comply with the applicable laws and regulations;
• Identifying investment chances in all MEWA sectors and drawing up general plans and programs;
• Receiving investment opportunities from different organizational units and ensuring their consistency with MEWA strategic orientation;
• Examining investment opportunities and economically evaluating them and their financial returns, ensuring their economic feasibility and choosing the promising opportunities;
• Drawing up and implementing promotional plans and programs for the targeted investment opportunities to attract local investors;
• Following-up the execution of investment plans and programs and ensuring commitment to the set time schedules;
• Coordinating with the concerned organizational units for encouraging approved local investments through available communication channels;
• Carrying out and following-up investments on the Ministry level (for example: real estate investment, services provision...);
• Providing support for investors willing to invest in different MEWA sectors and facilitating investment procedures in coordination with the concerned parties in the government; and
• Preparing reports on available investment opportunities in coordination with the concerned authorities.
Department of Privatization Support
• Drawing up laws and regulations and defining mechanisms for privatization and investment activities in KSA, in coordination with the different MEWA organizational units;
• Ensuring that all privatization businesses and activities comply with the applicable laws and regulations;
• Identifying privatization chances in all MEWA sectors and drawing up general plans and programs;
• Receiving privatization opportunities from different organizational units and ensuring their consistency with MEWA strategic orientation;
• Devising and implementing privatization plans and programs and meetings its requirements to promote production efficiency of MEWA businesses and activities, in coordination with the
concerned organizational units;
• Following-up the execution of privatization plans, programs and projects and ensuring commitment to the set time schedules, in addition to filing reports to the concerned officials;
• Developing effective mechanisms for determining smart partnerships with the private sector and designing promotional programs for promoting available privatization opportunities;
• Developing an investment map and preparing a road map and time schedule for privatization of different MEWA sectors, including privatization of available resources and ensuring optimal use;
• Supervising the evaluation and transfer of different resources, such as: assets and staff;
• Supervising partnership contracts and evaluating their efficiency and consistency with MEWA strategic objectives and orientations; and
• Setting unified standards for application and supervision of all privatization projects.
