The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in the inauguration of the International Year of Camelids (IYC 2024), which was launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at its headquarters in Rome. The celebration will be co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC), represented by Bolivia.
The Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Mr. Mohammed Alghamdi highlighted the role of camelids in enhancing food security and economic growth, while also emphasizing their cultural and social significance within the Saudi community.
The International Year of Camelids 2024 aims to build awareness of the untapped potential of camelids and to call for increased investment in the camelid sector, advocating for greater research, capacity development, and the use of innovative practices and technologies.
