His Excellency Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley participated in the Thirty-four Session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment held in the Sultanate of Oman, with the presence of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
H.E. Alfadley said that addressing environmental challenges is a priority at the international, regional, and national levels, and addressing them is a shared responsibility. He also called for collaborative efforts, exchanging experiences, and adopting cutting-edge technologies to achieve the goals.
He explained that Saudi Arabia seeks to achieve a balance between economic development and conserving natural resources. To achieve these goals, Saudi Arabia established the environment fund and five environmental centers and has also launched many pioneering initiatives to preserve the environment and enhance sustainability such as the Saudi Green Initiative. At the regional level launched Middle East Green Initiatives as well as established the Global Water Organization headquartered in Riyadh.
During the G20 Presidency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2021, The G20 leaders launched the collaborative Global Coral R&D Accelerator Platform and the Global Initiative on Reducing Land Degradation and Enhancing Conservation of Terrestrial Habitats to prevent, halt, and reverse land degradation.
Alfadley emphasized that Arab nations play an important role in confronting worldwide environmental issues. Saudi Arabia, for instance, is set to host both the COP16 and World Environment Day in 2024. This complements the collective Arab initiatives, such as the UAE's hosting of COP28 in 2023 and Egypt's hosting of COP27 in 2022. He also thanked Arab countries that supported Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Riyadh.
H.E. Alfadley expressed the solidarity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with the Palestinian people due to the severe suffering of the inhumane Israeli aggression. He also requested the international community to take a responsible stance and emphasized the necessity of adhering to the provisions of international and humanitarian laws. Furthermore, he expressed the solidarity of Saudi Arabia with Morocco, and Libya while facing the aftermath of recent natural disasters in their countries.
