Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen AlFadley, the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Charmian of Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has signed a contract with Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction to carry out the fourth stage of the seawater desalination plant in Shaibah. Once completed, the plant is expected to produce 400,000 metric tons of water a day to provide Jeddah with necessary water supply. The contract duration extends for about 33 months.
In his comments on the occasion, AlFadley said the total water production from public and private desalination plants in Shaibah touched 2.357 million metric tons per day to provide water supply to Makkah, Jeddah, Taif and Al Baha.
The minister saluted King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on the project, saying desalination projects reflect keen interest of the government to improve water sector. He added the SWCC is endeavoring and on the way to increase total production of desalinated water in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
