Saudi Arabia is deeply committed to animal welfare and has strict laws banning acts of animal cruelty. The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture together with the relevant authorities took punitive action against any person convicted of breaching these laws.
The Ministry announced that it has lately imposed fines totaling SR1,729,000 on 29 violators of the Animal Welfare Act and Livestock Law in different regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
"Violations included failure to apply the Saudi standard specifications on local animal products, the sale of animal products that are unsafe for human consumption, transportation of animals from area to another without obtaining the required health certificates, failure to provide appropriate environment for the animals, health violations and license-related violations detected in the vet facilities," said the Ministry.
The Ministry praised the efforts of the veterinary inspectors in its branches and offices, and all those who have cooperated with it by reporting violations especially those related to animal cruelty.
The Ministry called on vet facilities' owners to comply with the laws which aim to regulate livestock projects and promote animal welfare in the Kingdom, and urged people to immediately report suspected violations by calling the toll-free hotline at 8002470000.
