Saudi Arabia has called for enhanced international cooperation and strategic transformations to achieve global food security—the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman AlFadley stated this during his participation in Brazil's G20 Agriculture Ministers' Meeting.
During his speech, Eng. AlFadley said: "There is a pressing need to adopt a long-term transformation for food security and nutrition. This underscores the need to intensify our efforts and strengthen collaboration to develop pragmatic solutions for building sustainable, healthy, and inclusive food systems."
Eng. AlFadley added that Saudi Arabia is actively promoting domestic and foreign investments in the agriculture sector. Over the past four years, the Kingdom has witnessed a significant increase in agricultural loans, leading to a 35% growth in its agriculture GDP. Al-Fadley also stressed the need for collaborative efforts to address issues related to food supply chains.
The Minister underscored the importance of engaging all stakeholders, including the private sector and civil society, to achieve shared goals of sustainability and resilience in agri-food systems. He highlighted the role of direct food aid in providing solutions to food insecurity and mentioned the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre's completion of over 900 food security-related projects in 78 countries.
In concluding his speech, Minister AlFadley commended Brazil's G20 presidency for their initiative about the Task Force for a Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty and appreciated their efforts and approach. He also extended an invitation to attendees to join the Fourth Global High-level Ministerial Meeting on AMR in November in Riyadh.
