“MEWA” Temporarily Bans Equine Imports from China

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture temporarily bans importing of horses from China.

General Director of the Department of Animal Risk Assessment at the ministry D. Sanad AlHarbi stated that the ban was issued according to the warning released by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) on the appearance of potential Glanders in China. The ban was imposed to control the spread of such disease for protecting the public health.

The General Director of the General Department for Quarantines D. Osama AlSaleh clarified that the decision on the import ban has been circulated over all quarantines for the application of protective measures.
