The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has launched the trial operation of the mobile BSL3 laboratory.
The Ministry said that the project aims to enhance the capabilities of veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and promote the initiative of the Deputy-Ministry for Animal Resources outlined in the National Transformation Program 2020 and in Saudi Vision 2030 which aims to control the epidemics and diseases affecting animals and birds, mainly Zoonotic Diseases.
The Ministry confirmed that the laboratory is intended to access to epidemic outbreak sites, control highly infectious pathogen, maintain biosecurity and prevent biological hazards resulting from these diseases. The Ministry also pointed out that the project amounted to SR 7 million consists of two units, level two and level three, well equipped with the latest tool and equipment, also, sample reception unit, control and monitor unit and effluent treatment unit.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry has 17 veterinary laboratories within various regions of Saudi Arabia to carry out the works of the Deputy-Ministry for Animal Resources of veterinary diagnosis of livestock diseases and preventing the spread of Zoonotic Diseases.
