MEWA held on Monday a workshop entitled "Development of the Organic Production Sector" which was attended by the Ambassador of Denmark in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Ole Mosby. During the workshop, Aiadh said that based on the successful experiences of developed countries in the field of organic agriculture where the Kingdom of Denmark is at the forefront of those countries, MEWA will benefit from these experiences and practices to support the renaissance of organic food production sector in Saudi Arabia, as one of the main pillars in providing safe and high-quality food.
Mr. Ole Mosby, for his part, talked about the efforts made by the public and private bodies in Denmark to develop organic agriculture, increase production and the food market and to make organic food available to consumers, in addition to the achievements of the organic agriculture sector. He also confirmed the importance of holding these meetings to exchange experiences in this field, stressing his country's readiness to cooperate fully with Saudi Arabia in the development of organic agriculture sector and increase the local organic production.
The meeting was attended by representatives from government entities, Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabian Airlines and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). And a group of public and private sector representatives from Denmark, as well as representatives of leading agricultural and food companies in Saudi Arabia that play an important role in the organic food market.
It is worth mentioning that executive plan of the policy of organic agriculture was approved by the Council of Ministers' Resolution No. 324. The plan aims to providing direct support to organic farms as well as farms converting to organic agriculture. For 13 years, MEWA has worked actively to develop the organic food sector which is a new emerging sector compared to other countries, however, it is growing rapidly.
