MEWA Charges Violator of the GCC Animal Welfare Act in Jazan

The ministry has charged a violator with animal abuse after a video of a dog being tied behind his car and cruelly dragged along the road went viral on social media.

Dr. Abdullah Abalkhail, spokesman for the ministry, said that the ministry's branch in Jazan in cooperation with the security authorities has arrested the violator and that the appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the applicable laws.

"The ministry will not hesitate to impose the penalties prescribed by the GCC Animal Welfare Act on any person convicted of animal cruelty, and that such cases will be passed on to the competent authorities to take the statutory action thereon.", said Dr. Abalkhail, calling on all to immediately report suspected animal abuse by toll-free at 8002470000 or by email at Refq@mewa.gov.sa. It is worth mentioning that the ministry imposed financial penalties last week on violators of the GCC Animal Welfare Act and Livestock Law. These penalties were fines of up to SR500 thousand.
