The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture achieved a new international fulfillment by winning the World Summit on the Information Society Prizes Award (WSIS-2023) in the e-Environment category.
His Excellency Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Mansour bin Hilal Al Mushaiti stressed that this winning is an extension of the wise leadership’s unlimited support for digital transformation to all services of the Environment, Water, and Agriculture sectors in line with the vision 2030 and MEWA's digital transformation strategy.
The General Director of Information Technology and Digital Transformation in MEWA Dr. Abdulhameed bin Abudllah Aleliwi said the ministry beat 109 different international countries and more than 355 submitted projects to win first prize and exceeded 3 project stages to reach the coronation stage. MEWA accomplished this through e-Environment which represent the integration of the Geospatial portal and early warning system.
The Ministry received the award after completing technical requirements and standards, and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by constructing digital platforms and using cutting-edge digital environmental technology. This represented the integration of the Electronic Services platform "NAAMA,", the Geospatial portal and the early warning system. That aims to provide the beneficiaries with integrative and intelligent E-services with qualitative data and innovative experience.
Dr. Aleliwi received the award from the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This took place during a ceremony at the headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with attended representatives of member States of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum. in Geneva, Switzerland.
The WSIS Forum 2023 is the world's largest annual gathering of Information and communications technology. This award organizes by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under the WSIS 2023 theme "WSIS Action Lines for building back better and accelerating the achievement of the SDGs".
