MEWA Temporarily Bans Imports of Live Birds, Hatching Eggs and Chicks from India

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has temporarily banned the import of hatching eggs and chicks from India.

The General Director of the Department of Animal Risk Assessment, Dr. Sanad AlHarbi, said that the ban decision was made in accordance with the warning released by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) after confirming that a form of avian influenza which is highly lethal for poultry was detected in India.

For his part, the General Director of the General Department for Quarantines, Dr. Osama AlSaleh, confirmed that the ministry, in the interest of protecting the public health, has distributed circulars among all quarantines, and applied precautionary measures for prevention and control of such deadly diseases.
