 “MEWA” Enforces Temporarily Ban on Tilapia Imports from Mexico



The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has temporarily banned the importation of tilapia fish from Mexico. 

General Director of the Department of Animal Risk Assessment at the ministry D. Sanad AlHarbi stated that the ban was issued in accordance with the warning released by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) that confirmed the presence of Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) among tilapia fish.

General Director of the General Department for Quarantines D. Osama AlSaleh, for his part, confirmed that the ministry, in the interest of protecting the public health, has circulated notification on TiLV among all quarantines, and  applied precautionary measures for prevention and control of TiLV disease.
