1. Designing and preparing plans and policies that are suitable for organizing investments in fishing and aquaculture in the KSA territorial waters, as well as local and internal water, in coordination with the relevant authorities;
2. Drawing and carrying out the needed research plans for developing fisheries and aquaculture resources, increasing local production level, and creating field centers for experiments and empirical research in the field of fisheries and aquaculture, in addition to production of eggs and larvae;
3. Carrying out field surveys in the territorial waters for studying new changes and their effects with the competent authorities;
4. Carrying out statistical studies for evaluating the stocks of fish resources and aquatic animals: their species, breeding seasons, etc;
5. Carrying out research and studies on traditional and professional fisheries to assess their status, and find ways to boost their production capacity;
6. Publishing information and results of research and studies associated with aquaculture, and making them available for researchers and interested parties;
7. Providing technical and economic feasibility studies for establishing investment activities in fishing and aquaculture-based industries, or for establishing specialized aquafarms;
8. Coordinating with the relevant authorities to provide suitable conditions for achieving stability and improving conditions of workers in the field of fisheries and aquaculture;
9. Locating gulfs and breeding places for fish and other aquatic animals;
10. Coordinating with the competent authorities for developing the skills of fishermen in fishing and aquaculture by using modern technologies, methods and equipment;
11. Ensuring that all the Ministry's objectives, policies, laws and regulations related to organizing fishing, diving, and aquaculture are being followed and observed by the competent authorities;
12. Monitoring and following up aquaculture projects, and encouraging investment in this field, as well as measuring their productivity;
13. Following up and reporting compliance with the laws, bylaws and instructions that regulate fishing and diving in the territorial waters as well as aquaculture in local and internal waters;
14. Specifying the methods, equipment and instruments allowed for use in fishing aquatic animals in the territorial waters of the Kingdom;
15. Carrying out studies and encouraging establishment of cooperatives to be responsible for setting up local service centers to meet the needs of fishermen and aquafarmers
16. Coordinating and cooperating with the local and international scientific research centers specialized in aquaculture research to benefit from the results of their research; and
17. Reviewing objectives, policies and short- and long-term plans in the field of investments and developing aquaculture resources, and putting forward suggestions and recommendations about appropriate redesign and development.
