The Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI), affiliated with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has elected the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the commission chair for the third consecutive time. This occurred during the 12th session hosted by the Kingdom with the participation of 10 countries, from November 27th to 29th in Jeddah.
The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture expressed gratitude for the Kingdom's consecutive third-time election to lead the Commission. Emphasizing that the trust bestowed by the Authority's member states is a testament to the significant efforts invested in conserving natural resources and strengthening the fisheries sector. These endeavors align with the strategic goals outlined in Vision 2030 for sustainable development and advancing food security.
The Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI) aims to promote the development, conservation, rational management, and best utilization of living marine resources, as well as the sustainable development of aquaculture in the area covered by the Commission
RECOFI also formulates and recommends appropriate measures for the conservation and rational management of living marine resources, and ensures the implementation of these recommendations, keeping under review the economic and social aspects of the fishing industry - recommending any measures aimed at its development.
