MEWA to Indigenize Vertical Farming Technology in KSA

Director-General of Plant Resources, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Khateeb, said that the Ministry seeks to indigenize vertical farming techniques and introduce food varieties with high nutritional value and great economic importance in the Saudi market.

During his visit to the Plenty headquarters in San Francisco which accompanied by a Saudi delegation composed of representatives from Saudi Airlines Catering and headed by the Executive Vice President of Corporate Services, Mr. Sultan Al-Booq, and the investment adviser from Softbank, Al-Khateeb pointed out that the visit aimed at discussing possibilities and modalities of cooperation between the two sides in this area.

He highlighted the importance of this technology in increasing food production and productivity, as it helps producing safe, healthy and nutritious agricultural products that are free of pesticides and have better flavor and texture, and a longer shelf-life.

He said that both parties have also discussed the signing of a framework agreement to supply airline meals and the establishment of two vertical farms in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to be managed by Plenty.
